About Us
We envision a country where diverse voices are represented at every level of elected office and reflective democracy is woven into the fabric of our nation.

Change Who Holds the Power
Born in the aftermath of the brutal murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Aubrey and many others in 2020, when it became all too clear that we must do more to address the pervasive and systemic racism in this country, Representation Matters is dedicated to building a community that has a deep commitment to supporting and uplifting Black women, Indigenous women and women of color candidates.
Elect Women of Color
Electing leaders who bring diverse voices and perspectives to all levels of government is critical to shape effective policy and make lasting change. Women of color are a key component of that lasting change, yet they are particularly underrepresented in elected office and face greater challenges raising money for their campaigns.

A Call to Action
Through fundraising events and other efforts, Representation Matters provides both a safe and inviting space for participants and donors, as well as an opportunity for women of color candidates to have greater visibility and increase their fundraising capacity. Our events and virtual gatherings give audience members a firsthand understanding of the unique challenges women of color candidates face and bring to life their powerful stories of challenge and triumph. Our goal is to inspire donors through individual and collective action to help change the balance of power in our country by increasing the number of Black women, Indigenous women and women of color who win and serve.
Ongoing Effort
Dramatically increasing the number of women of color serving in Congress and other offices won’t happen overnight, but building an ever-growing mighty community of women warriors who believe in the mission of Representation Matters and feel supported in their leadership journey will go a long way toward getting us there. And that’s what Representation Matters is all about.
Now More Important
Than Ever
During this unprecedented time in our country’s history — with the surge of undemocratic redistricting efforts, the dismantling of the Voting Rights Act, the targeted prosecution of Black women leaders, the unparalleled voter suppression efforts, the assault on immigrants, and the increasing presence of troops on our city streets – we must do more.
This moment is calling for all of us to take action and invest deeply in bold, courageous leaders who have the passion and resolve to stand up, reimagine, rebuild and fight for a just and equitable America.
Today Representation Matters is primely positioned to expand its reach and impact, just in time for the 2026 cycle, to ensure women of color candidates continue to have the financial resources needed to run viable campaigns and WIN – in a bigger and better way!
