ABOUT US

COMMITTED TO CHANGING
THE FACE OF POWER

Representation Matters

is committed to changing the face of power by standing with and supporting progressive Black women and women of color candidates running for elected office.

Change Who Holds the Power

This effort began in June 2020. The idea emerged after George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and other Black men and women were brutally murdered, when it became all too clear that we all need to do more to address the pervasive and systemic racism in this country. One way to do that is to change who holds the power.

Elect Women of Color

To shape effective policy and make lasting change, it is critical that we elect leaders who bring diverse voices and perspectives to all levels of government. Women of color are particularly underrepresented in Congress and other elected office, and face greater challenges raising money for their campaigns. That needs to change.

A Call to Action

Representation Matters is building a community that has a deep commitment to supporting and uplifting Black women and women of color candidates. Through fundraising events and other efforts, Representation Matters provides opportunities for women of color candidates to have greater visibility and increase their fundraising capacity. The events also provide an opportunity for participants to better understand the particular challenges women of color candidates face and the critical need for all of us to do everything possible to change who holds the power. They are a call to action.

Ongoing Effort

Addressing systemic racism by ensuring that our elected officials are representative will not happen quickly, and certainly not in one or two election cycles. Representation Matters began in 2020 and is dedicated to building a strong and growing community that is committed to changing the face of power.

Our Goal

is to level the playing field, and amplify the voices of Black women and women of color running for Congress and other elected office.

Now More Important Than Ever

With the increasing attacks on abortion rights, voting rights, environmental protection, gun safety, tribal sovereignty and so much more, it is now more important than ever that we change the face of power and elect leaders who are committed to fighting for fundamental rights and preserving our democracy.
